Well we are a little over 2 weeks away from our marathon! It has been a journey that’s for sure. It’s had its ups and downs and I’ve pushed through. The last three long runs have consisted of an 18 and two 20 milers. To say I’m completely ready for this marathon would be a lie but I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.
We start our taper this week and will run 14 miles this Saturday and 12 miles the next. I’m nervous and excited and even have some dread. I just pray for us to stay healthy and be safe and have everything line up just perfect. As many runners know, anything can happen. You can get sick, your tummy can give you issues, there is blood sugar issues, bladder issues etc etc. and that’s not even talking about how the actual running will go. So I just try and take a deep breath and just let things happen as they will.
Our goal is to finish and enjoy this race. It’s an emotional race and we are looking forward to the experience. We have to be smart and not over do it in the beginning. Our last 20 miler we averaged close to a 10 min per mile pace. But that was with a few short breaks. We are better trained than our last marathon and honestly I can see us going out too hard and pushing ourselves. I’m already proud of us for staying committed to our plan. Proud for putting in the long hours in the heat and humidity. Starting much earlier than everyone else and missing out on the enjoyable socializing after our Saturday runs. We are definitely ready for things to go back to normal. I’m ready to start focusing on a sub 2 half and more trail runs. So wish us luck! I may not post again until after the marathon.
